[UPDATED] Winter Storm Warning for NEI, 8-12 Inches Possible

The first snowfall, a potentially major one at that, will being to push across the state this morning (Nov. 20, 2015) and afternoon. Total amounts of 6 to 10 inches are expected across a large portion of the state, especially north of interstate 80.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for heavy snow. The warning begins at 2:00 PM Friday (Nov. 20) until 6:00 AM Saturday (Nov. 21). The WINTER STORM WATCH is no longer in effect.

Snow is expected to begin across the area during the afternoon hours and expected into the evening and overnight. Evening commutes will be affected in many locations.

In Black Hawk county, total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Evening snow accumulation is expected to be 4 to 8 inches possible. Saturday morning snow accumulation is projected to be less than a half inch.

In addition, winds of 15 to 25 MPH may produce minor blowing and drifting, and it may contribute to reduced visibility.

Snowfall will work its way across the state from west to east through the day and evening. Snowfall is likely to affect rush hour Friday afternoon and especially travel Friday evening - including the Waterloo Metro. Travel will be hazardous. As the snowfall tapers off Saturday morning, bitter cold temperatures and wind chills will move in for the weekend. Get prepared and stay safe.
