It was the biggest game of the season in the Missouri Valley Conference, but it didn't quite live up to all the hype. The 10th-ranked UNI men's basketball team had its school-record 16-game winning streak snapped by No. 11 Wichita State, 74-60, as the Shockers extended their consecutive string of home-court victories to 32 Saturday afternoon (February 28, 2015).

Wichita State (27-3 overall, 17-1 MVC) claimed the MVC's regular season title with the win. As league champion, the Shockers get the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MVC Tournament in St. Louis. UNI (27-3 overall, 16-2 MVC) will be the No. 2 seed.

The Panthers held a 20-16 lead with 10:12 left in the first half after a Wyatt Lohaus (North Liberty, Iowa) basket. But the Shockers would close the half on a 22-6 run and take a 38-26 lead into the intermission.

Wichita State opened up an 18-point lead at 51-33 early in the second half only to see UNI charge back to within 55-51 with 8:38 left in the game. WSU's Evan Wessel drained a pair of three-pointers to push the lead back to eight at 63-55 to stem the tide.

UNI was led by Seth Tuttle (Sheffield, Iowa), who scored 16 points and had seven rebounds. Tuttle also handed out six assists.

All five of Wichita State's starters reached double figures led by Ron Baker's 17 points and seven assists. Fred Van Vleet also added 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Wichita State, which suffered its only league loss at UNI on Jan. 31, claimed its second-straight Missouri Valley Conference title. The Shockers were the pre-season favorite to win the crown, while UNI was picked finish second in the league.

The game aired on ESPN as part of the network's Spotlight Saturday, a series of games featuring teams that will impact the NCAA tournament next month.

As the top-seeded teams in the MVC Tournament, UNI and Wichita State are favored to play for the tournament title and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

The MVC Tournament -- known as "Arch Madness" -- will be played at Scottrade Center in St. Louis starting Thursday. UNI gets a first-round bye and will play at 6 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals against the winner of the No. 7-No. 10 game.
