The Who Reunite with Kenney Jones for Charity Concert

On June 14, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey reunited with their former Who bandmate Kenney Jones for a live set during Rock ‘n’ Horsepower, an all-star benefit show with proceeds going to Prostate Cancer U.K.

As we previously reported, Jones shared the news of Daltrey and Townshend’s involvement last month, describing himself as “really pleased” and adding, “I have a number of very talented friends on board who are set to make this day a totally unique event.”

ABC News Radio reports that the Who’s set included performances of ‘I Can’t Explain,’ ‘Substitute,’ ‘5:15,’ ‘Pinball Wizard,’ and ‘The Kids Are Alright,’ helping anchor a show that also included appearances from Jeff Beck, Genesis and Mike & the Mechanics guitarist Mike Rutherford, Moody Blues member John Lodge, former Foreigner bassist Rick Wills, Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall, and John Parr. You can watch fan-shot footage of the event — including the Who’s performance of ‘I Can’t Explain,’ embedded at the top of this post — at YouTube.

Jones, who joined the Who following Keith Moon‘s death in 1978 and left after their initial break-up in 1982, had a personal as well as musical stake in the show. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer last summer, and has become acquainted with the Prostate Cancer U.K. organization — which he’s referred to as “a huge support in my diagnosis and recovery” — while receiving treatment.

And this isn’t the only reunion on Jones’ docket: As he told Billboard earlier this year, plans are still afoot to bring the surviving members of the Faces back together to “finish on a good note” in 2015 — sentiments recently echoed by the band’s keyboard player, Ian McLagan, who explained that Rod Stewart was finally on board with the idea and added, “I want to do it.”
