When Cedar Falls plays at Iowa City High Friday night, it’ll be the Tigers first game in 47 years without Coach Pat Mitchell roaming the sidelines.

Mitchell retired last month, citing health issues, and now long-time co-Head Coach Brad Remmert in his first season as the Tigers’ sole head coach.

Two others will make their head coaching debuts this week, 15-year assistant Jerry Alden guides East Buchanan against North Tama and Brad Schmidt leads his alma mater – Waterloo Columbus Catholic – against Independence.

Oelwein travels to Sumner-Fredericksburg, seeking its first victory in 24 games. The Huskies were young and inexperienced last year, but return six starters on offense and seven on defense this year.

"We've gotten bigger and stronger in the past year," Oelwein Coach Matt Kuempel said. "We've worked really hard. The kids we've got will do a pretty good job.”

Also Friday night, Hudson is on the road. They Pirates travel to Le Grand to play at East Marshall.
