An arctic deep freeze is producing some of the coldest temperatures ever recorded in Iowa.

The life-threatening weather has forced widespread closures of schools, businesses and government offices across the state. The U.S. Postal Service took the unusual step of suspending mail delivery in Iowa Wednesday because of the cold temperatures.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for the entire area through at least Thursday morning. High temperatures on Wednesday will range from -10° to -20°. Wind chills during the day will range from -35° to -45°, plunging to -40° to -60° by Thursday morning.
