An armed robbery at a Waterloo business led investigators to Postville, where at least two suspects were taken into custody Wednesday morning (Sept. 16, 2015).

According to Waterloo police, two men entered the iWireless store at 1523 E. San Marnan Dr. just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and ordered the employee into a backroom at gunpoint. The suspects then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and cellular telephones.

Witnesses told responding officers that they observed the suspects exiting the business with the stolen items and fleeing the area in a silver sport utility vehicle (SUV). The employee was not injured during the robbery.

As a result of the investigation, a vehicle matching the description of the one reportedly used in the Waterloo robbery was later located in the parking lot of the Pines Motel in Postville, about 75 miles away.

Waterloo Police requested assistance of the Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team to execute a search warrant of the motel room occupied by the armed suspects. The occupants inside the unit were taken into custody for questioning.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing. Additional information is expected to be released later.

The Waterloo Police Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team, Iowa State Patrol Negotiators, Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department, Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, Postville Police Department, Postville Fire and EMS, Cresco Police Department, and the Waukon Police Department.
