Police are investigating the death of an 18-month-old boy at a Waterloo home. Officers were called to the 1400 block of Bertch Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday (June 17, 2015).

Officials have released few details about the investigation. A police spokesman said the child was napping in a car seat and people inside the home called 911 when they found him unresponsive. The initial call indicated the child had somehow asphyxiated.

According to police, the boy was later pronounced dead at Covenent Medical Center in Waterloo. An autopsy is scheduled today.
