Waterloo Police Confirm Nightclub Manager’s Death

It may be some time before authorities know how the manager of a Waterloo nightclub died.

Local police have confirmed that William Micou III, 38, was found unresponsive inside Club 319 around 5 p.m. on Monday (May 23, 2016). Micou ran the downtown Waterloo bar, but the building at 229 E. 4th St. is owned by his father and aunt.

Because of Micou's young age, authorities initially said they were investigating his death as "possibly suspicious", even though there were no apparent signs of foul play.

Waterloo police Lieutenant Greg Fangman said an autopsy was performed on Tuesday, but the cause of death still had not determined. According to Fangman, toxicology tests need to be completed and the results are not expected back for several weeks.

Fangman confirmed that foul play is not suspected in Micou's death.

On Tuesday, when the local entrepreneur's death was confirmed by police, Main Street Waterloo offered condolences to friends and family of Micou.

"Downtown Waterloo is more than just a business district, it is a neighborhood," Main Street Waterloo Executive Director Tavis Hall said. "We are saddened by the news of the passing of Billy Micou as not only an entrepreneur, but also as a neighbor. Our thoughts are with the Micou family during this difficult time."
