A man with several outstanding arrest warrants was caught by authorities when he tried to flee during a traffic stop in Waterloo early Wednesday (May 20, 2015).

Officers received information that David Lee Sailor, 30, was riding in a white Mercedes Benz that police attempted to stop near Berkshire and Hampshire roads around 1 a.m. today. Officers knew Sailor had several warrants for his arrest and had fled from police in recent weeks.

According to Waterloo police Sgt. Matt McGeogh, the vehicle originally pulled over when officers initiated a traffic stop and then accelerated away as police approached it on foot. A short time later the vehicle began to slow down and Sailor jumped out of the moving car.

Sailor initially fell to the ground and then fled from police on foot. Officers caught up to him, a short struggle ensued, and Sailor was eventually arrested after police tasered him. Before going to jail, Sailor was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained when jumping out of the moving vehicle.

Sailor was booked into the Black hawk County jail on the outstanding warrants. He was also charged him with interference with official acts.

McGeogh said the driver and registered owner of the car fled from police during the incident. However, Aija Mujakic, 21, was located after a period of time and taken into custody.

Mujakic was charged with interference with official acts and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. According to police, additional charges are pending.
