A man is accused of robbing a downtown Waterloo bank on Friday (February 6, 2015).

Police captured and arrested Arthur Lee Sanders, 56, shortly after the hold-up. He was booked into the Black Hawk County jail on a charge of second-degree robbery.

Officers were dispatched to Bank Iowa at 330 East 4th Street around 9:10 a.m. Friday on a report of a strong-arm robbery. An employee told police a light-skinned black male robbed the bank of an undisclosed amount of cash and took off, running north toward First Presbyterian Church at East Park Avenue and Franklin Street.

A short time later, a police officer located a man matching the suspect's description near the church. According to authorities, the man tried to run away but was caught by the officer.

Police said the suspect was taken back to the bank and employees identified the man as the person who robbed it.

According to police, the clothing Sanders wore in the robbery was found in the area where he was apprehended. Items from the robbery were also located on the suspect.
