Waterloo Flood Gates Closing

The City of Waterloo will begin closing flood gates today.

Due to the projected Cedar River elevations, the City of Waterloo will be activating the initial phase of our flood protection program. This will entail closing several flood control gates on the storm sewer system and activating the associated storm water lift stations.

This will also prohibit river water from backing up into the storm sewer system and having the pumps activated and ready to pump collected storm water back into the Cedar River. The storm sewer gates will re-open once the Cedar River drops to a safe elevation.

This is only for river gates and no road closings are expected at this time.
