At the end of September the process to deflate the Cedar River Dam in Waterloo will begin.

The City of Waterloo will start the deflation of its downtown dam on the Cedar River on Thursday, September 28th and should be completed in one day. Due to the deflation, river levels upstream will be shallower and anyone on the river should take note of the depth change.

The dam is being lowered earlier than normal this year in order to allow for the reconstruction of the parking lot and boat ramp at the Waterloo Boathouse. The parking lot reconstruction is expected to be completed this fall.

On the 29th and 30th, the Cedar Valley Paddlers will be moving mussels to deeper water due to the lower river levels. Questions should be directed to Jamie Knutson in the City Engineer’s office, (319) 291-4312.
