The Cedar River is rising in Waterloo, but the higher water level has nothing to with recent rainfall.

The city of Waterloo is activating the inflatable dam on the Cedar River, starting today (Monday, May 4, 2015). The inflation will take two days to complete, city officials said.

At full inflation, the dam will raise the river level upstream from downtown by approximately four feet, allowing for more boating and river recreational activities. The dam can be lowered when river levels are high and individual sections may be lowered to clean out debris or log jams.

City officials said the dam will remain inflated until the first of November, weather permitting.
