Waterloo Black Hawks Welcome New Vice President

Veteran professional hockey executive Joe Greene was introduced Wednesday as the Waterloo Black Hawks’ new Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

A native of Kansas, Greene has joined the organization after a decade of sports experience, including successful terms with four professional hockey clubs and an independent-league baseball team.

“The community, the fans, the current staff and ownership, and the United States Hockey League make this a fantastic opportunity which I have been excited about since having the chance to attend a couple of games here with my family in April,” Greene said. “It is wonderful to be coming to an organization with such a strong foundation, and where so many good things are already happening.”

Greene’s most recent hockey post was with the Dayton Gems of the Central Hockey League, where he served as president from 2010-2012, and during which time the team was recognized as the CHL’s Community Relations Franchise of the Year. In 2009/10, Greene was the Missouri Mavericks’ assistant general manager during that club’s expansion season in the CHL. At the conclusion of the campaign, the Mavericks were recognized by the league with Group Sales Franchise and Merchandising Franchise of the Year awards.

Greene’s entrée into professional sports was with the CHL’s Topeka Tarantulas in 2004/05. He spent the following four seasons with the circuit’s Wichita Thunder, also serving concurrently with the Wichita Wingnuts baseball club of the American Association. In each role, Greene’s efforts have generated fun, family-friendly promotions to enhance the fan experience. He has also worked with each teams’ marketing partners to find creative and interactive game-night opportunities.

From 2012 through his hiring by the Black Hawks, Greene served as Customer Service and Marketing Manager for Twin Valley Telephone, a voice, cable, and internet communications provider for customers in north central Kansas. He is a 2002 graduate of Fort Hays State University in western Kansas. Greene's wife, Sarah, and sons, Justin, Drake, and Coby, will be joining him in the Cedar Valley in the coming weeks.

Greene’s role with the Black Hawks will provide the opportunity for current Vice President of Business Operations Mike Falk to transition out of the front office over the summer in order to seek his law degree.

“I can’t thank the Black Hawks organization and Waterloo fans enough for the great experience I’ve had here,” said Falk. “I had intended to go back to school in 2013, but the unique opportunity here in Waterloo that summer was too good to pass up.”

Falk – in his current role for the past two seasons and a member of the Black Hawks’ staff since 2011 – has been accepted to Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee for the fall term.
