The Waterloo Black Hawks have two home games this weekend inside Young Arena. On February 7-8, 2015, the Hawks will host the Tri-City Storm.

Waterloo begins the triple-header weekend on the road Friday in Madison to play the Capitols.

Triple-Header
For just the second time this season, the Waterloo Black Hawks will play three games in three days. The prior instance was from November 6th through 8th when Waterloo met the Chicago Steel, Madison Capitols, and Green Bay Gamblers. Madison will be part of this weekend’s activities on Friday when the Hawks make their only appearance at Alliant Energy Center. The Capitols edged Waterloo, 3-2, in the only other meeting on the schedule. The Black Hawks’ season series against the Tri-City Storm will also conclude this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The games nearly mirror a two-game trip which the Hawks made to Kearney, Nebraska on January 9th and 10th; the Storm won those duels 5-3 and 3-2 respectively.

The Streak at an End, Long Live the Streak
Tyler Sheehy’s streak of 11 consecutive games with a point came to an end last Friday when the Black Hawks topped the Omaha Lancers, 4-1. However, as Saturday’s tilt with the Sioux City Musketeers concluded, Henrik Rommel’s point streak had nearly reached equivalent proportions. The 20-year-old from Sweden has not been held without either a goal or assist for nine straight contests, recording 13 total points in that time. The run by Rommel has included a shorthanded goal, but just three points on the power play. During Sheehy’s streak, the Burnsville, Minnesota native had recorded four goals and ten assists.

Speaking of Streaks
Defenseman Alec McCrea has put the puck in the net once during the last five games, but his streak during that timeframe is only indirectly related to scoring. The Waterloo captain has been +2 or better in each game since January 17th. The plus/minus differential is recorded for or against the skaters of each team who are on the ice when an even-strength or shorthanded goal is scored. In addition to a goal and +11 mark during the last five contests, McCrea added an assist in each of the Hawks’ games last weekend. He is on pace to make his 150th USHL regular season appearance later in February.

Halfway Home
The Black Hawks still have 15 of 30 regular season home games remaining on the schedule. At this point, only the Chicago Steel have played fewer games on their own ice (14). With a 6-8-1 mark presently at Young Arena, the Hawks have the opportunity to climb back to .500 this weekend. During January, Waterloo owned a 3-0-0 home record and cumulatively outscored opponents 15-2 in those games.

Weekly Recap
Each player on the Tom Novak/Henrik Rommel/Max Coatta line recorded two points, and the Hawks topped the Omaha Lancers, 4-1, Friday. The next evening in Sioux City, the Musketeers prevailed, 4-3.
