The Wartburg Knights split an Iowa Conference basketball doubleheader with Central Wednesday night (January 15, 2014). The Knights won the women’s game 86-51, before the Central men posted a 74-63 win in the nightcap.

The Wartburg women (7-7 overall, 1-2 IIAC) shot a blistering 80-percent from the field in the first half and finished the game with a .630 field goal percentage, just shy of the .657 single-game school record. Sophomores Kailey Kladivo (Traer) and Bobbi Burrows (Bondurant) each had 15 points for the Knights, while junior Alyssa Sager ( Albert Lea, Minn.) joined them in double digits with 12 points. Holly Halstead (Hudson) had a team-best five rebounds.

The Wartburg men (7-7 overall, 1-2 IIAC) were paced by seniors Thomas Perkins (San Tan Valley, Nev.), who tallied 12 points,  and Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello), who finished 10. Wartburg next hosts Coe in a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. at Buzz Levick Arena.

Next Up: The women's and men's basketball team will host Coe College this Saturday, January 18th.  It is another Iowa Conference basketball doubleheader.  Women start play at 2:00 p.m., and the men are slated for a 4:00 p.m. tip off.
