The Wartburg Men & Woman basketball teams hosted Buena Vista on Saturday, January 24, 2015. The Knights went 1-1 on the day.

The Wartburg women's basketball team (11-6 overall, 2-4 IIAC) started the double-dip beating Buena Vista (6-11, 1-5) 85-75.

Four Knights recorded double figures as freshman Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) had a career-best 20 points, which included four from three-point land. Junior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) followed with 15 points, freshman Miranda Murphy (Alleman) had 13 and junior Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) rounded out the group with 11.

The Orange and Black took the 41-36 lead at halftime. The lead changed hands 13 times in the second half and Wartburg took the lead for good at 77-75 with 1:26 to play on a layup by Kr. Sommer. The Knights made their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

During the Men's game, Senior Clay Cook (West Branch) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds in Wartburg's (10-7 overall, 3-3 IIAC) 82-76 loss to Buena Vista (12-5, 5-1) Saturday. Eight of his total rebounds were on the offensive glass.

Two fellow Knights, sophomores Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Nate Webber (Peosta) joined him in double digits with 18 and 10 points, respectively.

The Orange and Black took the slim lead, 31-30, in the locker room at halftime. The lead changed hands seven times in the first six minutes of the second half until BV compiled a 13-0 run over the next five minutes to take the lead for good at 57-44.

Wartburg battled back and sliced the margin to four on a trey by freshman Nate Woeste (Atkins) with :49 to go. The Knights then fouled and Buena Vista made its free throws to solidify the win.

Next Up: The Orange and Black, both squads, return to the court Wednesday when they travel to Dubuque to play Loras.
