Winneshiek County authorities have a warning to convey to anyone boating on the Upper Iowa River this Memorial Day weekend.

According to the sheriff, and Winneshiek County Emergency Management, there is a dangerous bend in the river, in which a strong current is flowing toward several fallen trees.

The location of the bend is approximately 200 yards up river from the Pole Line Road/Bluffton Road River Access.

Authorities recommend that those who use the river, should use extreme caution, or just avoid that area of the Upper Iowa altogether. Authorities also note that the northeast Iowa river is constantly changing.

The Upper Iowa River is a very popular waterway for using canoes, kayaks, and other smaller watercraft.
