A Waterloo woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident that injured five other people near downtown Cedar Falls early Saturday morning (Nov. 5, 2016).

Police identified the victim as Cynthia Brooks, 38, a passenger in the back seat of a car, driven by Charles Brooks, 46, of Champlin, Minn. Officials said Charles Brooks suffered minor injuries, while two other passengers -- Kamyah Brooks, 7, and Leslie Brooks, 43, both of Champlin -- were seriously hurt. Kamyah Brooks was air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Two occupants in the other vehicle were also injured. According to authorities, Randy Combs, 62, of Waterloo, suffered minor injuries and Daniel Combs, 59, also of Waterloo, suffered series injuries.

Police said Randy Combs was driving a mini-van that was rear-ended by the Brooks' car, but investigators are still trying to determine what caused the accident. Both vehicles were westbound when they collided on the Iowa Highway 57 (1st St.) bridge over the Cedar River near Gateway Park shortly after midnight. Each vehicle hit the bridge's cement barrier after impacting.

The crash closed the bridge for several hours.
