Update-Power Restored For 600 Dunkerton, Rural Black Hawk County Residents

Electricity has been restored to the more than 600 Black Hawk County residents who woke up in the dark this morning (Monday, February 17, 2014).

As of 9:30 a.m., Mid-America Energy was reporting on its website that electricity was back on for nearly 420 residents in Dunkerton and about 200 others in rural Black Hawk County who lost power at around 5:45 a.m. Mid-America spokeswoman Tina Potthoff says company officials believe the outage was weather related.

The latest winter storm moving across the upper Midwest is producing a mixture of sleet and snow in the Cedar Valley. The National Weather Service is expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow to fall in the Waterloo-area before the storm moves out of the region this afternoon. The weather system is creating slick roads and dangerous travel conditions. Many area schools closed for the day.

A winter weather advisory is posted for Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Franklin, Grundy, Marshall and Tama counties until noon today, and for Benton and Buchanan counties until 3 p.m. The rest of northeast Iowa is under a winter storm warning until 3 p.m.
