As the reconstruction of University Ave. continues in Cedar Falls, a traffic shift is about to occur.

For the next four to five months, traffic will be moved head-to-head onto the eastbound lanes from the Blackhawk Village shopping center to Hillcrest Dr. while crews remove and reconstruct the north half of University Ave. According to city officials, the traffic shift will begin as early as Monday (May 16, 2016).

Updated information on University Ave. project released by city officials shows that crews are ready to begin the removal and reconstruction of the north half of the former U.S. Highway 218 thoroughfare between Blackhawk Village and McClain Dr. The road work will require the traffic shift to the south side of University Ave. possibly through mid-September, weather permitting.

According to city officials, another part of the project is the reconstruction of the Boulder Dr. and Idaho Road intersection one block south of University. The intersection is expected to be closed for five to seven weeks, depending on the weather.

The entire $32.5 million project in Cedar Falls is scheduled to be completed in 2018. Six roundabouts are being added to University Ave. The road is also being narrowed from six lanes to four.
