University of Northern Iowa softball player Chelsea Ross has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Ross has been named the MVC Pitcher of the Week three times this season, but this is her first time being named Player of the Week.

Ross batted .538 this week in six contests, driving in six runs to score while tallying a .846 slugging percentage. Ross also walked nine times this week, giving her a .727 on base percentage over the six games.

The junior got it done in the circle as well, tossing a one-hitter against Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday while striking out five batters. Against No. 11 Missouri, Ross allowed just two earned runs and six hits.

She earned her second win of the week against Indiana State on Saturday, striking out nine batters over nine innings while allowing two earned runs in UNI’s 4-3 win.

On Thursday, UNI begins MVC Tournament play as the No. 3 seed. All games during the MVC Softball Championship tournament will broadcast live on ESPN3.
