For the first time since 2008, the Northern Iowa men will not be playing post-season basketball.

Head Coach Ben Jacobson has confirmed the Panthers have declined invitations to participate in a pair of post-season tournaments – the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) and Collegeinsider.com Tournament (CIT).

UNI's season is officially over at 16-15 overall. The team is losing just seniors – Matt Morrison and Chip Rank.

The Panthers played in the CIT last year and advanced to the semifinals while playing four post-season home games at the McLeod Center. The tournament field features 32-teams from non-BCS leagues, playing games at on-campus sites. The CBI also features on-campus games, but is made up of only 16 teams.

UNI's decision to decline a post-season berth ends the school's streak of five consecutive 20-win seasons and also ends a 10-year stretch of winning 18 or more games each season.

Jacobson recorded his 166th win as UNI's coach in the season-finale at Indiana State on March 1st, tying O.M. “Hon” Nordly's mark for coaching victories at the school.

The Panthers return a strong nucleus of players next season. The 2014-15 roster will feature six seniors.
