UNI Makes Return To AP Basketball Rankings; Iowa State Moves Up
UNI has returned to the Associated Press men's college basketball rankings at No. 23, while Iowa State has jumped to No. 11 in this week's poll, released today (Monday, January 12, 2015).
For UNI (14-2), it's the third time this season the Panthers have cracked the top-25 rankings. Each time they have entered the AP poll at No. 23, but UNI has yet to be ranked for consecutive weeks by the media.
The Panthers returned to the poll after a pair of decisive wins last week. UNI beat Southern Illinois at home Wednesday night (55-39) before Saturday afternoon's blowout victory at Drake (64-40).
Iowa State (12-2) made the biggest jump of any team ranked in the AP survey, one week after taking the biggest fall. The Cyclones jumped six spots from No. 17 following Tuesday's home win (63-61) over Oklahoma State and Saturday's victory (74-72) at then-No. 14 West Virginia. Two weeks ago, Iowa State was ranked 7th.
Also worth noting, UNI is ranked 22nd in this week's ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, which is a one spot improvement over last week. Iowa State made a three spot jump in coaches survey, moving up to No. 13 from No. 16.
The top 25 teams in The Associated Press' college basketball poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Jan. 11, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote and last week's ranking:
