UNI, Iowa State Both Move Up In AP Basketball Poll
UNI and Iowa State made the biggest jumps in this week's Associated Press men's college basketball poll, released on Monday (February 2, 2015).
The Panthers and Cyclones both moved up four spots from last week, with UNI jumping to No. 14 from No. 18 and Iowa State climbing to No. 11 from No. 15.
This week's No. 14 ranking is the highest in history for UNI (20-2, 10-1 MVC) in the AP poll. The rating follows Saturday's 70-54 victory over then-No. 12 Wichita State (19-3, 10-1 MVC) at the McLeod Center. Following the loss, the Shockers fell to No. 16 this week. It marks the first time since January 1982 that two teams from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) are ranked in the Top 16 of the AP poll the same week.
UNI is one of just six teams in the nation to have already reached 20 wins this year.
Iowa State jumped up in the poll after beating 19th-ranked Texas and TCU last week. The Cyclones, however, lost Monday night's game at No. 8 Kansas, 89-76, so their ranking could change next week.
Georges Niang scored a game-high 24 points to lead four Iowa State players in double-figures. The Cyclones are now 16-5 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 Conference play.
The top 25 teams in The Associated Press' college basketball poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Feb. 1, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote and last week's ranking:
