The University of Northern Iowa football team routed the Southern Illinois Salukis 40-21 Saturday, November 15, 2014 improving to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Brion Carnes finished the game 18-28-1 for 169 yards and two touchdowns. David Johnson led the Panthers on the ground with 19 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jake Farley led both teams with 15 tackles. Brett McMakin came away with 10 tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss. The Panthers also finished the game with three interceptions for 64 return yards.

Post-Game Notes vs. Southern Illinois

- Captains against Southern Illinois: #37 Max Busher, #66 Jack Rummells, #7 David Johnson and #46 Jake Farley.

- Junior tight end Braden Lehman scored his second touchdown of the season and the third of his career. Brion Carnes found Lehman in the end zone for an 18-yard catch, forcing the 6’7 Iowa City, Iowa native to stretch for the score.

- Max Busher notched his second interception of the season against the Salukis. He returned it 24 yards to the SIU one-yard-line, setting up UNI’s second touchdown of the game.

- Tim Kilfoy grabbed his fourth interception of the season and second pick-six against the Salukis, putting UNI up 21-0 late in the second quarter. It was UNI’s 14th interception of the season.

- Tate Omli recovered a fumble by the Saluki punt team in the end zone for UNI’s fourth touchdown of the game. It served as Omli’s first-career touchdown as a Panther.

- UNI’s defense and special teams has excelled this season, scoring 153 of UNI’s 349 total points. Michael Schmadeke is 23-of-25 from field goal range and 38-of-40 on PATs. UNI’s defense has scored four touchdowns this season, while special teams play has added a blocked punt for a touchdown and a kickoff return for a touchdown.

- Jake Farley finished with a career-high 15 tackles against Southern Illinois, leading both teams in the stat.

- Ray Mitchell broke the school record in interception return yards after his second interception of the season against SIU. He returned the pick for 33 yards, giving him a career total of 270. He passed Dre Dokes (2003-06), who had the record at 261.
