The UNI Panthers opened their 2016-17 men's basketball season with a 74-37 triumph over Coe at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls on Saturday (Nov. 12, 2016).

UNI shot 52.6 percent from the floor, with the bench outscoring Coe's reserves, 45-11.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Jeremy Morgan and Bennett Koch as each tallied 11 points. Morgan scored all 11 of his points in the first half, draining a trio of three-pointers and tallying four steals.

UNI used a 17-0 run in the first half to turn a 5-4 lead into a 22-4 advantage. Morgan drained three 3-pointers during the run and accounted for 11 of the 17 points. The Panthers' biggest lead in the first half was 43-12 with 1:47 left in the first half.

Head coach Ben Jacobson used 13 players in the second half as the Panthers outscored the Kohawks, 22-15, in the final 20 minutes.

The game opened the regular season for UNI. It was an exhibition contest for Coe, a Division III team from Cedar Rapids that's a member of the Iowa Conference.
