An accident involving a farm tractor in Butler County sent two people to the hospital Monday afternoon (May 9, 2016).

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Iowa Highway 57, about a half-mile east of Parkersburg's Legends Golf Course.

The Iowa State Patrol said two vehicles were following the westbound tractor and one of them passed it successfully. The driver of the second vehicle, however, failed to recognize the tractor and hit it from behind. The impact flipped the minivan on its top in the middle of the highway and sent the tractor into a ditch, ejecting the driver.

The tractor's driver -- Carter Bixby, 19, of Dike -- was hurt in the accident, along with the minivan's driver -- Carrie Dekat, 41, of Parkersburg. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Bixby and Dekat were both transported to a Waterloo hospital to be treated for their injuries.
