A Fayette man is facing charges following a weekend motorcycle accident that injured himself and a passenger in Buchanan County.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of the crash in the 2000 block of Wapsie Access Blvd. around 4 p.m. on Saturday (April, 1, 2017). According to authorities, Robert Turner, 50, was driving drunk when he lost control of his motorcycle on the rural road and slid into a ditch.

Officials said Turner suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated at the scene, while his passenger -- Hillary Hunziker, 31, of Independence -- suffered unspecified injuries but is expected to survived. She was transported to the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, before being airlifted to University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

After the crash, Turner was arrested. Sheriff's officials said he was charged with second offense operating while intoxicated (a series misdemeanor) and failure to maintain control.
