The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating an accident on the Cedar River near Waverly, in which a tuber was struck by a boat.

DNR officials said A 19-year-old woman suffered minor head lacerations in the mishap, which happened near a sandbar around 7:45 PM on Sunday (July 15, 2018).

The woman, whose name was not released, was riding a tube with some friends on the Cedar River, just north of the Stockwell Bridge near Waverly, when she was hit by a boat, the DNR said. The woman was pulled out of the water by another boater, and then taken to shore.

The injured woman was taken to the Waverly Hospital to be treated. She was released a short time later.

Iowa DNR officials said the boater who struck the woman is being investigated for a possible charge of boating while intoxicated.

Bremer County sheriff's officials assisted the DNR at the scene.
