Truck vs. Bike Accident In Cedar Falls

One person was cited and another injured after an accident involving a truck vs. a bicyclist in Cedar Falls.

Earlier today (Thursday, October 15th) around 11:00 A.M., the Cedar Falls Police Department was called to an accident at the intersection of Hudson Road and Greenhill Road involving a pick up truck and a bicycle. The truck, driven by Trevor Schmitt of West Des Moines, was stopped at a red light facing westbound on Greenhill Road at the intersection with Hudson Road. The bicycle, operated by Christine Peters of Cedar Falls, was on the sidewalk travelling southbound parallel with Hudson Road with a green light.

According to the police report, the truck attempted to make a right turn on red turn to go north, when Schmitt failed to yield to the bicycle proceeding through the intersection. The bicycle collided with the front end of the truck. Peters was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation was made at the scene and Trevor Schmitt was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. There was minimal damage to the bike, and no damage to the truck.
