Motorists should anticipate traffic delays on Interstate-380/U.S. 218 in Waterloo over the next two weeks. To avoid congestion, the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) is encouraging drivers to consider alternate routes to get around the construction zone.

Bridge repairs are continuing near the San Marnan Drive interchange.

According to IDOT, the three northbound lanes of traffic will be restricted to one beginning tonight (Thursday, May 15, 2014). Traffic in the three southbound lanes of I-380/U.S. 218 is already restricted to one lane.

IDOT officials are reminding motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
