The Waterloo Black Hawks could not take the ice without sticks, helmets, and other hockey gear; for school kids to reach their goals this winter, they will need different equipment: pencils, notebooks, crayons, markers, and more.

This Saturday, the Black Hawks have partnered with Courier Communications to host a school supply drive during an intersquad scrimmage within the team’s orientation camp. There is no charge to attend; instead interested fans are encouraged to donate school supplies which will be distributed to area kids in need.

“We did this for the first time last season, and we were so proud of what our fans collected.” Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene

In 2015, those who attended a hockey scrimmage at Young Arena donated over 3,000 crayons or markers, more than 1,000 pencils, 232 notebooks, and a stack of loose-leaf paper over two feet tall. A wide variety of other classroom supplies were also provided.

This Saturday’s scrimmage will be at 5:05 PM, with doors opening at 4 o’clock. All fans making a contribution to the school supply drive will receive a coupon for $2 off admission to Black Hawks exhibition games on September 6th versus the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and September 17th against the Des Moines Buccaneers.

The Black Hawks’ first regular season home game will be October 8th versus the Lincoln Stars. Individual regular season tickets for all 2016/17 contests at Young Arena will be available for the first time on Thursday, September 1st. Season tickets and group reservations for the 2016/17 campaign may be obtained immediately and provide unique savings and special benefits.
