So, as many of you know, a week and a half ago I just disappeared from KCRR for a few days. No mention of what was going on or where I went. Luckily for me, Bucky Doren, was able to step in and keep the station rolling. I thought that it may be beneficial to explain what happened to me.

To keep the story short, because I know your attention span is very similar to mine, I'll just explain quickly why I am currently wearing a "piss-bag" and will be for another 2 weeks or so.

I experienced what is called Testicular Torsion.  The Mayo Clinic describes it like this:

"Testicular torsion occurs when a testicle rotates, twisting the spermatic cord that brings blood to the scrotum. The reduced blood flow causes sudden and often severe pain and swelling. Testicular torsion is most common between ages 12 and 16, but it can occur at any age, even before birth.

Testicular torsion usually requires emergency surgery. If treated within a few hours, the testicle can usually be saved. But waiting longer can cause permanent damage and may affect the ability to father children. When blood flow has been cut off for too long, a testicle may become so badly damaged it has to be removed." - Source - http://www.mayoclinic.org/

Luckily for me, I was smart enough, or panicked enough, to call 911 and have a Red and White Limo come get me and throw me on a bed and take me  to the ER. I eventually had to ride in the back of another ambulance to Iowa City where the specialists there performed a 3 hour surgery to correct the issue. We caught it in time and were able to save my "berries".

I paid attention and noticed swelling and INTENSE pain.

The moral of the story is that we always hear about Breast Cancer and female medical conditions, and that's not a bad thing.  But as men, we must also care for ourselves. I know you're not opposed to feeling down there and checking it out. So when you're doing that, pay attention.  You could avoid long term damage.  I did...but I still can't use the dang thing for 5 more weeks.
