The Jimi Hendrix Experience picked its drummer by flipping a coin.

‘Tis true! Outside of Jimi Hendrix, the band had bassist and singer Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell.  Mitchell tried out for the trio in 1966 and beat out a ton of other talented drummers.  It actually came down to Mitchell and Aynsley Dunbar.  So, the Hendrix and Redding flipped a coin and Mitchell won.

Mitchell was named the 23rd greatest drummer of all time by Rolling Stone.
