Is your state baby-friendly? The personal finance site WalletHub just came out with its rankings of the best and worst states in which to have a baby in 2016.
Based on such metrics as hospitals’ delivery charges, C-section rates, average annual infant-care costs, infant mortality rates, and child-care centers per capita, here are the 10 best states:
- Vermont
- Maine
- Connecticut
- Minnesota
- New Hampshire
- Hawaii
- Oregon
- Massachusetts
- North Dakota
- Washington
And here are the 10 worst:
- Mississippi
- Louisiana
- Alabama
- New York
- Georgia
- West Virginia
- Nevada
- Arkansas
- Florida
- North Carolina
Our lovely state of Iowa did very well, falling in 14th place for the best place to have a baby. We'll take that. AND, it's to no one's surprise that most of the BAD states are in the south, because having a baby with your sister doesn't count.
