Construction work currently underway on U.S. Highway 218 in northern Black Hawk County will temporarily impact the flow of traffic for two days this week, weather permitting.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, crews will be working on the new overpass at the future interchange with County Road C-57 -- also known as Cedar-Wapsi -- between Cedar Falls and Janesville. Placement of concrete bridge deck forms over northbound U.S. 218 will require single lane closures from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday (March 28-29, 2016).

Northbound U.S. 218 traffic impacts:

  • The inside lane will be closed Monday, March 28
  • The outside lane will be closed Tuesday, March 29

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
