Police arrested three people in connection with a New Year's Day shooting in downtown Waterloo early Friday morning (Jan. 1, 2016).

Authorities have charged Kristopher Spates Jr., 22, of Waterloo, with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, carrying weapons, going armed with intent and interference with official acts. Officials also arrested Davion Madlock, 16, and Doncorrion Spates, 15, both of Waterloo, and charged them with carrying weapons.

Police identified the man injured in the shooting as Ramarez Gary, 31, of Waterloo. Authorities said he suffered gunshot wounds to his leg and was transported to Unity Point-Allen Hospital for treatment.

The shooting occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday. That's when officers received a call from Club 319 -- located at 229 E. 4th St. -- that patrons were refusing to the leave the bar at closing time.

While at the bar, police noticed several people in a nearby alley off Lafayette St. As officers approached the group, they heard several gunshots and made the arrests while the crowd was dispersing the area.

A Waterloo officer fired once at an armed suspect. Police said the shot missed and the person fled on foot.
