There is an increased risk in burning today (Oct. 15, 2015).

Northwest winds will increase substantially today becoming very gusty by the afternoon. Wind speeds are expected to be between 18-23 miles per hour with gusts as high as 33 MPH.

Relative humidity will also fall to very low values (in to the 20's) this afternoon. As a results, conditions will be hazardous for burning or any fires that start as they may be able to spread quickly.

This is especially true in fields or areas where surface vegetation has cured. Any burning is strongly discouraged, and those engaging in harvest activities should be aware of the increase fire threat.

A Red Flag Warning for a very high fire danger has been issued for portions of northern Iowa near Storm Lake this afternoon.
