Hopefully Special Correspondents is funnier than this trailer for the new Netflix movie suggests — though to be fair, some great comedies have had some pretty lame trailers. Ricky Gervais returns to the home of his series Derek for a new original film that teams the famed British comedian with Eric Bana, resulting an unlikely but seemingly delightful pairing.

Bana previously showcased his excellent comedic chops in Funny People, but it’s sadly not a genre he visits often — a shame considering the actor got his start in TV comedy in his native Australia. It’s good to see him back to lighter material with Gervais for Special Correspondents, which stars Bana as a radio personality who teams up with a sound engineer to fake reports from a war in Ecuador to boost his career. But when they come close to being exposed, the pair are forced to head to Ecuador for real.

Wacky hijinks ensue, Gervais makes some jokes, and Vera Farmiga and Kelly Macdonald are charming — as usual. Here’s the official synopsis:

‘Special Correspondents’, a new Netflix original feature film, was written and directed by Ricky Gervais and stars Eric Bana (Deliver Us From Evil, Lone Survivor) and Gervais (Muppets Most Wanted, Derek). The film is about a struggling New York based radio journalist whose arrogance and decadent lifestyle has hindered his career. With his job on the line, he fakes front line war reports from the comfort of his hideout above a Spanish restaurant in Queens.

Special Correspondents also stars America Ferrera, Kevin Pollak and Benjamin Bratt, and hits Netflix on April 29.
