Special parking arrangements are in place for fans attending the high school baseball games between Oelwein and Waverly-Shell Rock in Waverly on Thursday (June 19, 2015).

Hertel Field's parking lot is being used for this weekend's Gentlemen of the Road Tour, a summer music festival that's being held on the Wartburg College athletic fields. The event, featuring Mumford and Sons, is expected to bring more than 30,000 visitors to Waverly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Fans attending Thursday's junior-varsity/varsity doubleheader should plan to park in Lots A or B on the Wartburg campus. The lots are accessible off 12th St. NW and are located directly west of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center (The “W”) and east of Lynes Field, Wartburg's softball facility.

A Waverly-Shell Rock School District bus or van will be used to transport fans to Hertel Field – about three blocks away. According to district officials, the shuttle service begins at 4:30 p.m. and finishes after all fans have left the games. The shuttle is scheduled to run continuously from 4:30-10:30 p.m., so no one will have to walk to and from the game site unless they choose to.

The junior-varsity game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., following by the varsity contest at 7:30 p.m.

Expect some traffic delays in Waverly, starting Thursday evening. As part of the music festival, several bands will be playing downtown. According to city officials, Iowa Highway 3/Bremer Ave. will be accessible with some detours.

Festival organizers are recommending alternative routes into Waverly for fans attending the doubleheader on the city's northwest side. They suggest the following routes to avoid traffic delays:

  • Traffic entering Waverly from the east on Iowa Highway 3 West should take U.S. Highway 63 South to Denver, County Road C-50 East to Janesville, then U.S. Highway 218/Iowa Highway 27 North into Waverly.
  • Traffic entering Waverly from the north on 12th St. NW or County Road T-77 will be shut off at the Gateway addition. Vehicles should turn east on 5th Ave. NW, south on 1st St. NW near the Cedar River, then west on Iowa Highway 3/Bremer Ave.
