I'll be the first to tell you that taking a good "#2" is one of my favorite things in the world. Sometimes, I even hold it for longer than I should, just to get goosebumps. With that being said, I've never thought to myself, "Huh? I bet I have gold in there. I should scoop that up and go through it." Well, new research is suggesting I should.

New research presented at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society suggests that precious metals may be able to be mined from an unlikely source: human feces. Human waste is already treated at wastewater plants before it’s used to fertilize farms and forest, reports The Washington Post. Among the particles often extracted are precious metals, and U.S. Geological Survey researchers believe that there’s enough value in these metals that methods for mining them should be developed in order to bolster the economic prospects of American communities. In fact, a recent study found that up to $13 million in precious metals could be found in a city with a population of one million.
