An undercover officer fired shots during a drug sting operation in Waterloo that ended with the arrest of two men Sunday morning (Jan. 22, 2017).

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), officers with the Tri-County Drug Task Force conducted a narcotics transaction at Awesome Car Wash, 2180 Logan Ave. (U.S. Highway 63), just before 7:30 a.m.

The DCI said two men from Minnesota arrived to deliver narcotics to undercover officers. During the transaction, a Special Agent entered the driver's side door of the suspect vehicle in an attempt to handcuff the driver. That's when a fight began and the agent fired two shots at the suspect.

No one was injured and both suspects were taken to the Black Hawk County jail, the DCI said.

Officers arrested Paul Greseth, 31, of Wanamingo, Minn., for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (Class B Felony)., and Dylan Purdy, 24, of Upper Minneapolis, Minn., for Possession of Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (Class B Felony).

The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by the Iowa DCI. The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) did not release the name of the Narcotics Enforcement Special Agent, due to the nature of current assignment.

The Tri-County Drug Task Force includes officers from the Iowa DPS, the Waterloo and Cedar Falls police departments, and the Black Hawk County sheriff's department.
