Serious Injuries Result from Multi-Vehicle Crash

A multi-vehicle crash near Hudson sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries.

Black Hawk County Sheriff Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident south of Hudson in the 1000 block of Hudson Road.

On arrival Deputies observed that three vehicles had been involved, two with heavy front end damage. Air Care was summoned to the scene but upon arrival it was determined they were not needed.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that a 2006 Pontiac Solstice driven by Jean Dony Ngasil Okwo, 25, of Waterloo, was attempting to pass a south bound semi-tractor trailer, when it collided with a northbound on-coming truck. The truck, a 2003 Ford F150, operated by Jeffrey Salasek, 36, of Buckingham.

The collision between the Solstice and the Ford, sent the Solistice into the east ditch. The Ford was sent into the path of the semi trailer that the driver of the Solstice was attempting to pass. The Semi Tractor Trailer driven by Robert Dean Irwin, 42, of Omaha, Nebraska, was a 2012 Peterbuilt owned by Cargill Meat Logistics Solutions of Wichita, Kansas. The Ford was sitting in the middle of the roadway, while the Semi was partially in the ditch about a 1/10 of a mile south of the scene. There was no damage to the Semi Tractor, however damage was observed on the trailer which was also owned by Cargill Meat Logistics Solutions.

Okwo and Salasek were transported to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries. Their condition has not been released. Okwo was cited for unsafe passing.

Deputies were assisted by Hudson Fire and Ambulance, Covenant Ambulance, Reinbeck Fire, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT Commercial Enforcement, Hudson Police and Ray Mounts Wrecker Service and Air Care Services.
