Northeast Iowa residents are being warned of a telephone scam being run in Northeast Iowa.

According to reports, some residents in Oelwein, as well as other towns, have received calls, which are pre-recorded messages, claiming to be from the IRS.

The caller demands that you call a number to give them personal information, to settle an alleged legal suit against you; they also warn about consequences filed against you if you don't comply.

Anyone receiving these messages should either just hang up, or call local law enforcement.

The IRS never does business in this manner.

And NEVER give out personal information, including bank and social security numbers, over the phone, especially to someone you do not personally know.
