The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo is expected to be closed a few days after a water pipe burst Tuesday and flooded nearly half of the building’s main floor. Museum Director Kyle Klingman says no memorabilia was destroyed, but the water damaged several interior walls, flooring and cabinets.

Battalion Chief Mike Moore of Waterloo Fire Rescue says the frigid-cold temperatures caused a sprinkler pipe to burst, pouring water inside for nearly 15 minutes at an estimated speed of 500 gallons per minute.

Firefighters were called to the museum around 11:15 a.m. to shut off the water. A cleaning company spent most of the afternoon getting water out of the building.

Klingman says museum officials are still accessing the damage so repair costs aren’t yet known.
