Cedar Falls police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that left one person dead and several others injured early Saturday morning (Nov. 5, 2016).

The crash occurred shortly after midnight on the Iowa Highway 57 (1st St.) bridge over the Cedar River, just east of Main St. The accident forced officials to close the bridge for several hours overnight.

Cedar Falls police said both vehicles involved in the mishap were traveling westbound on Iowa 57 at the time they collided. Officials confirmed one person died at the scene.

Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
