One Killed, One Injured In Rural Benton County House Fire
The Iowa State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a house fire that killed one person and injured another in rural Benton County early Friday morning (May 11, 2018).
Sheriff's officials confirmed that Chauncey Raue, 37, died in the fire. His body was found after firefighters extinguished the blaze at 5164 25th Ave. south of Brandon.
Authorities said four people -- Chauncey's wife and the couple's three small children -- escaped the burning home. One person was air-lifted to University Hospitals in Clinics to be treated for serious injuries.
According to sheriff's officials, the two-story home was completely engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived just before 1:30 AM. The house was destroyed by the fire.
Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked the blaze.
