The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle accident that killed one person in Floyd County early Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2018).

According to a crash report, the victim was in a car that collided with a semi tractor-trailer outside the town of Floyd around 5:30 AM. Officials haven't yet identified the person killed.

The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 18/U.S. Highway 218 at Quarry Road, a dangerous intersection along the "Avenue of the Saints" that's been the site of several serious crashes in the past. The Iowa State Patrol said the car, traveling eastbound/southbound, rear-ended the semi.

The victim died at the scene, authorities said.

Iowa State troopers were assisted at the scene by Floyd County sheriff's officials, City of Floyd Fire/Rescue, AMR Ambulance Service and Iowa Department of Transportation Enforcement.
