Oelwein Losing A Major Business

The city of Oelwein is losing another business.

Sears Headquarters, the owner of Kmart, is announcing that the Kmart store on the south side of Oelwein, will be shutting its doors in a few months.

Associates in the store in Oelwein, as well as the Sears on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines, were informed that both businesses will be closing in mid-October.

Employees affected by the closures, will be given severance pay and offered employment at other Kmart or Sears stores in the area.

The stores will begin liquidation sales before the end of the month, which will give consumers about 3 months to shop.
